Book Adaptations I Love

It’s pretty common knowledge that movies and tv don’t always do a great job of adapting books to the screen. But boy is it satisfying when they do!

The Hunger Games
It’s been quite a long time since I’ve read the Hunger Games books – probably 10+ years by now, but from my memory (albeit limited), I’ve always found the Hunger Games adaptations to be one of the better. I’ve always felt that they captured the feel of the world that Suzanne Collins crafted,

The Perks of Being a Wallflower
This has always been one of my favourite movies of all time – and maybe I’m a little biased because I saw the movie before I read the book – but this movie is a heart-wrencher. A beautiful adaptation that doesn’t need to go into specifics about the trauma that Charlie has experienced. Sometimes saying less, says more.

City of Bones
I know this movie got a lot of hate at the time of its release, but I really enjoyed this adaptation and was heartbroken when they didn’t continue the series. In my opinion, it captured the aesthetic of the shadowhunter world and let's be real, Jamie Campbell Bower IS Jace Wayland. No matter what people say, I will always stipulate that this movie is a hundred times better than that abomination of a Netflix series.

The Maze Runner
Even though a lot of details had to be omitted or changed, I will always forgive movies for not being true to their book counterparts if the movie itself is great. And these movies were great. Sure, they weren’t exact replicas of the novels, but I think they did a great job with the material they had.

Harry Potter
Does anything really need to be said about the Harry Potter movies? Not only were they a cultural phenomenon, but they were great adaptations and the casting was near perfect.
