Lightning Crashes by Live
Since a friend of my Fiance’s and mine has moved in with us, we’ve all been getting into a lot of divorced dad anthems. Creed in particular, but this one by Live was on repeat for me during March. Even though I’m not a dad and most likely will never be one (let alone a divorced one), there’s something about those kinds of songs that just hit right.
Chris Dolmeth by Hopsin
Besides having a catchy hook, I really love the story in this song. Hopsin has always been a good story-teller rapper, much like Joyner Lucas or Eminem. The way he personifies the addictive drug in the character of Chris Dolmeth is one of those things that you envy as a writer. The way someone can intellectually spin words into an artform that doesn’t need explanation.
Ascensionism by Sleep Token
I discovered sleep token late last year and have been crazy about their music ever since. Ascensionism is one that I somehow slept on while I was obsessing over The Summoning and Missing Limbs. From the writing, music and symbolism throughout their discography, Sleep Token really deserve all the success they’re getting and more.
Watch Your Mouth by The Backseat Lovers
One of my favourite things to do is re-discover songs that I used to love. I listened to this one quite a lot thanks to my Spotify DJ. It was around 2022 or 2023 when I heard it for the first time and there’s something about the attitude in the chorus that makes you wanna jump around.
Hold Onto Me by Mayday Parade
A suggestion from my Spotify DJ! He clearly knows I have a soft spot for punk rock/pop. Surprisingly enough, I haven’t heard much Mayday Parade, but after this one I’ll have to delve into them a little.
